I am excited to introduce a new link up today, Fiscal Friday. Here are the details:
Every other Friday, we will be linking up to talk about fiscal responsibility. That can mean talking about debt, tips for saving money, encouraging each other to keep saving or not make that spontaneous $300 purchase.
You might be wondering how this came about.
In a round about way this all started on twitter. There are five of us that tweet each other almost everyday. We talk about purchases we want to make and how we can afford it. We talk each other out of purchases we don’t need or help to find cheaper alternatives. We cheer each other on when we pay off debts. And it is awesome to have someone to talk to about those things. Somewhere along the way we started to hashtag things with #FiscalResponsibility.
The lovely ladies who help keep me sane:
Why do I care so much about fiscal responsibility? My own and others?
I feel like there is a lack of education about finances, particularly among younger generations. I graduated from college with thousands of dollars in student loan debt and have felt like it is strangling me. The crazy thing about that is I don’t have nearly as much debt, student loans or otherwise, as my classmates and peers.
More and more it is considered to be the norm to carry debt of all kinds. Student loans, mortgages, car loans, credit cards, etc. Now, I’m not saying I’ll never take out a loan. I’m just saying if you are charging everything or carrying a lot of debt, you probably aren’t doing it right. But that’s okay! That’s why we’re doing this! We want to encourage people to pay off debt and live a fiscally responsible life.
In short, I feel it is important for people to learn to be fiscally responsible in order to establish a strong future for themselves.
This isn’t made any easier by social media. I love love social media but it is really hard to see all the pretty things other people buy and want to buy them too. My fiscal responsibility girls help me with that!
Okay, now it is your turn! Link up and talk to us about fiscal responsibility. Any topic you want! Don’t forget to grab our button and link back!
