A Casual Ruffle Hem Tee

I have spent a lot of time lusting after the peplum tee trend lately but I keep thinking it wouldn’t be a good fit for me. Being as short as I am, I thought a peplum would look boxy or squatty on me. That was until I saw this shirt and it totally changed my mind. I love drape of the fabric. It looks so comfortable and easy. Then I saw this shirt and knew I had to have one.

Of course, I rarely buy anything straight from the store so I headed to my fabric stash and found two yards of a soft, 100% cotton knit. Since the Hey June Handmade Union St. Tee is my current favorite – seriously it is so easy and fits so perfectly – I decided to hack it. Here’s the short version of how I did it – I sized up to make the shirt more flowy and cut the bottom 9 inches off so it hit just below my navel. The bottom is 11 inches tall by 1.5 times the width of the shirt. I wanted my shirt to be casual so I decided to overlap the two pieces by roughly one inch and leave the edge rough.

If you’re loving the ruffle hem tee trend as much as I am but you don’t want to make your own you can order one very similar to mine here. There are a number of other reasonably priced options here, here, here, and here.
